February Blood Drive

There will be a blood drive on February 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge at 2096 State Route 14, Montour Falls.

To make an appointment to donate blood, all current eligible and new donors may:

* Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543)

* www.donatebloodnow.org nights and weekends.


Anyone 17 years or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health may be eligible to donate blood. In New York State, 16-year-olds may donate blood provided they bring an original signed New York State Informed Parental Consent form for a 16-Year-Old to Donate Whole Blood. Appointments encouraged, walk-ins welcome and Identification is required.

Volunteers Needed: Red Cross Blood Banks




The American Red Cross has a great need for volunteers. They most urgently need help at their blood drives. Please consider volunteering for the American Red Cross. Just a few hours every month or so is all it takes. Ask a friend and do it together!

Tax Forms Available at Montour Library

The Montour Falls Library has 2009 NY State tax forms available.  Any questions about what forms they have or suggestions for others they should order can be directed to Luke Rondinero at 535-7489.  If you can't get through, just leave a message.  You can also email your questions/requests to montourfalls@stls.org.

Forms can also be downloaded from the IRS website.

Don't forget that RSVP offers free tax counseling services to Schuyler residents age 60 and older!

Head Start Fundraiser

 Need something fun and inexpensive to do with the grandkids?  How about a night at the movies?
Schuyler Head Start and the Glen Theater team up to present the movie The Tooth Fairy. Tickets are $5.00 and includes admission, a small popcorn and a drink. The ticket is good  FOR ALL SHOW TIMES. The movie runs from January 22-February 4, 2010. Thanks for your support. Call 535-6814 for tickets!!

Tax Counseling for the Elderly





Certified RSVP volunteer tax counselors will provide free assistance with 2009 Federal and New York State tax returns from February 3rd through April 14th, 2010 at the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls. This service is available for Schuyler County Senior Citizens age 60 and over.

Tax assistance is provided by appointment only, which can be scheduled by calling Schuyler County RSVP at 607-535-8242. Please leave a message and a volunteer will contact you.

Residents outside of Schuyler County and/or those under 60 years of age should call the 2-1-1 Helpline by dialing 211.

Finger Lakes Parkinson Disease Support Group Meeting

The Finger Lakes Parkinson Disease Support Group will meet Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 1:30pm in the Silver Spoon Café at the Schuyler County Human Services Complex, 323 Owego Street in Montour Falls.

This month’s program features Suzanne Fingler, RN, presenting on “Parkinson’s Disease and Clinical Depression”. She will discuss the link between chronic disease and depression, including information about the difference between "The Blues" and true Clinical Depression.

The support group is open to individuals with Parkinson disease and their care partners/family members. Suzanne is a Senior Registered Professional Nurse at Schuyler County Community Services: Mental Health Clinic.
